This book contains fifteen life story compositions that have been prepared within the oral history study «Ethnic and narrative diversity in life story constructions in Latvia» (directed by Vieda Skultans, PhD) at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the University of Latvia. All of the authors of the selected life stories live in Latvia and are native Russian speakers or use the language on a daily basis.
The Russian community in Latvia has a long history, and it has become rooted in Latvian culture and language. However, due to conflicting politics of memory, relationships between the two communities are ambiguous. Life stories help to overcome the boundaries between one ethnic group and another.
