At the International Oral History Association Conference in Kraków
Last week, three members of the «Navigating Post-Exile: Transformations and Transitions in the Latvian Exile Community after 1991» project, Maija Krūmiņa, Maruta Pranka, and Ginta Elksne, researchers at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Latvia, participated in the 23rd International Oral History Association (IOHA) Conference, «Re-Thinking Oral History», held in Kraków, Poland, from 16 to 19 September.
The conference brought together hundreds of researchers from around the world and featured two papers prepared within the framework of the project:
🔹 Navigating Post-Exile: Experiences of Return through Oral History (Maija Krūmiņa, Ginta Elksne)
🔹 Latvian Migration Waves: Identity, Memory, and the Diaspora Experience (Maruta Pranka, Ginta Elksne)
In addition, Maija Krūmiņa participated in a masterclass led by Professor Michael Frisch (University at Buffalo), entitled «Between the Raw and the Cooked – New Tools and Approaches in the Oral History Kitchen». The masterclass explored innovative ways of complementing traditional archival and documentary approaches to oral history with an instrumental approach - employing new tools and methods for processing, mapping, and presenting oral history materials in ways that make them accessible and engaging for a variety of audiences.
